FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

🔎 About us

Who is The Planet Earth Foundation?

The Planet Earth Foundation (TPEF) is a global not-for-profit organisation, registered in the United Kingdom under registration number 157 81 632. We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to restoring Earth’s natural balance. Our mission is to reforest degraded lands with dense, biodiverse native forests, promote agroforestry to secure farmer livelihoods, and regenerate ecosystems so people and nature can thrive together.

We currently plant forests in India (Madhya Pradesh) and the United Kingdom, with plans to expand across Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond.

Why do you focus on farmers’ land instead of wilderness areas?

Because farmers manage 30–70% of land globally. By partnering with them, we can restore biodiversity at scale while also improving their livelihoods. This creates a win–win for people and the planet.

What is the Miyawaki method and why do you use it?

The Miyawaki method grows dense native forests that mature up to 10× faster and store up to 30× more carbon than traditional plantations. These forests sustain themselves with minimal care and bring back a full web of biodiversity.

💚 Donations & Gifting

Is my donation tax deductible?

The Planet Earth Foundation is a UK-registered Community Interest Company (CIC). Donations to a CIC are not eligible for UK Gift Aid or personal tax relief, unlike donations to a registered charity. Businesses may, in some cases, record contributions as an allowable expense if linked to corporate social responsibility (CSR) or sponsorship.

What does my donation support?

Your contribution supports every step of the restoration journey:
• Partnering with farmers and landowners
• Preparing land and nurseries for Miyawaki forest creation
• Planting biodiverse native forests and productive agroforestry trees
• Monitoring forest growth, biodiversity, and soil health
• Ensuring long-term impact on carbon sequestration, water cycles, and farmer livelihoods
Every donation supports not just trees, but thriving ecosystems and resilient communities.

Can I plant trees in memory of someone, or send them as a gift?

Yes. You can dedicate or gift trees to honour someone special or celebrate an occasion. We provide a personalised digital certificate you can share with the recipient. Gifting trees is a meaningful, lasting way to contribute to reforestation and ecosystem restoration.

Can I dedicate a forest instead of individual trees?

Yes. Larger contributions can support an entire forest block dedicated to your family, business, or cause, with naming options and long-term updates.

🌱 Impact & Transparency

How do I know my trees are being planted?

We are committed to transparency and accountability. Donors receive updates, photos, and impact stories from the projects they support. Our monitoring framework tracks not just survival rates, but also biodiversity returns, carbon sequestration, and livelihood benefits for farmers.

When will the trees my donation supports get planted?

Planting depends on seasonal rainfall and site preparation. Projects typically begin within the same year your donation is received, with planting timed for the monsoon or rainy season. Each project goes through multiple phases: land preparation, seedling production, planting, and multi-year monitoring to ensure survival and long-term ecosystem health.

How do you measure impact beyond tree planting?

We monitor biodiversity (birds, insects, pollinators), soil health, water cycles, and farmer income. Our success isn’t just in trees planted, but in thriving ecosystems and stronger communities.

How much of my donation goes directly to projects?

At The Planet Earth Foundation, we are committed to ensuring that the maximum possible share of every donation goes directly to reforestation and restoration. We strictly cap our operating costs at no more than 20% of total revenue, so at least 80% always supports on-the-ground impact.
Currently, our fund allocation is:

• 82% – Reforestation and planet restoration efforts (planting native forests, agroforestry, biodiversity monitoring, and farmer partnerships)

• 15% – Employee costs (ensuring skilled delivery, community engagement, and transparent reporting)

• 3% – Other operating costs (such as marketing, travel, technology, office space, and professional services)

This lean and transparent structure ensures that your donation makes the greatest possible difference – restoring ecosystems, capturing carbon, and supporting farmers’ livelihoods.

🌍 Carbon & Offsetting

Does The Planet Earth Foundation offer carbon credits or carbon offsets?

Our projects naturally capture and store carbon. While not all projects are certified carbon credits, we are working with partners to scale and verify future projects under recognised standards. Today, donors and businesses can contribute fair-share offsets that restore forests, regenerate biodiversity, and strengthen farmer livelihoods – delivering real climate impact even where certification is not yet applied. For organisations seeking verified credits, we can explore tailored partnerships.

Is this the same as buying carbon credits?

Not exactly. While our forests capture and store carbon, our current focus is on fair-share contributions that restore biodiversity and support livelihoods. Some future projects may be verified as formal carbon credits.

How do I know my offset is “fair”?

We use data that links income and wealth to emissions, helping you understand your fair share of responsibility. This way, everyone contributes proportionally to their impact.

👥 Participation & Partnerships

Can I visit the project sites?

Yes, supporters and partners may be able to visit certain sites in India and the UK (and in future, other regions). Visits are arranged carefully to avoid disturbing forest growth and farmer routines.

Do you work with schools, businesses, or community groups?

Absolutely. We run tailored partnerships so businesses, schools, and groups can plant forests, offset emissions, and engage their communities in climate action.

Can I volunteer?

Yes! Whether helping with planting, fundraising, or spreading awareness, volunteers are welcome to be part of the movement.

📦 Operations & Practicalities

Where do you plant now, and where next?

We are currently planting forests in Madhya Pradesh, India – where rising heat (up to 49°C) makes ecological restoration urgent, and in the United Kingdom, one of Europe’s least-wooded nations, where biodiversity and native woodland recovery are critical. From these bases, we aim to expand across Asia, Europe, Africa, and beyond.

Can I support projects close to home in the UK?

Yes! Alongside our international work, The Planet Earth Foundation is planting native forests across the United Kingdom. The UK is one of the least-wooded countries in Europe, and restoring its woodlands is vital for biodiversity, pollinators, and climate resilience. By donating, you can choose to support projects in the UK, India, or wherever the need is greatest.

Why are you registered as a CIC and not a charity?

As a Community Interest Company, we are bound by UK law to reinvest all profits into our mission. This gives us the flexibility to act globally while guaranteeing our work always benefits communities and the planet.
